Prerequisites

 


Students must have earned at least a grade of B or higher in either: Advanced Art, and/or Painting. Students will also be accepted who have earned at least a grade of B or higher in either Art 1-2 or 3D Art -- with a recommendation. Students without previous art classes may be eligible by portfolio review and interview with the AP Studio Art instructor Mr. Knight.

 

Overview

A unique opportunity for students to learn how to create a mural by applying their drawing and painting skills. Students will have hands on experience executing a mural project from concept to completion. Offers students practical aspects including: preparing surfaces, equipment, materials and design transfer. Historic to contemporary survey of murals will also be explored.

 

Course Rationale

Students will attain a better understanding and appreciation of mural techniques and ideology they might not otherwise be exposed to. It will give students confidence and pride to meet the challenges murals present. Students will experience long-term gratification knowing they are taking part in an enduring, historical tradition.
